Awaken the child on a stormy night,
The shadows stretch to grasp her fright,
seen only in a lightning flash,
Reaching figures black as ash,
The branch of a tree is the dark ones hand,
Longing to tear her from her land,
A teddy bears ghost spread on the floor,
Becomes a grizzly with fangs and more,
The half open door leading to her room,
Is a darkened portal from the gloom,
Another flash and here again,
Phantoms and ghouls, alone they stand,
The thunders cracks their only voice,
Screaming out her only choice,
As they draw closer to her bed,
She pulls the quilt above her head,
Where are her mommy and daddy now?
How could the leave her here, how?
Tonight she closes her eyes once more,
But they shall open never more
